End of Windows 10? Consider your options…

As you may have heard, today is the last day of Windows 10 security updates. What does that mean for future potential security of your systems? Well, there are several options:

Linux/other system

Is your computer used for web and word processing (or for that matter, many more advanced development/programming uses?) – If your computer does not need to have very specialty software that is built for Windows only, you might back up everything and use Linux (or, dual-boot).

Time commitment – hours of copying/setup work

Cost – $0 or cost of bandwidth/media devices.

Upgraded Windows 11

If you have a compatible PC, according to PCmag there is currently a special deal on an upgrade for $14.97.

If you do not have a compatible PC, you may still want to check with the local computer shop. One can reportedly still upgrade many systems by putting a hard drive in a newer computer, running the Windows 11 upgrades, and replacing it into older system.

Upgrades for Windows 10

If you don’t want the latest Windows 11 on your computer, you can still get the extended updates for Windows 10 (this would make it more safe for general web browsing and usage).

This is being sold for $30 or 1000 rewards points, in other words this is free if you do a few tasks while logged in on bing.com!? This may seem odd to pay for extended updates, although both Red hat and Ubuntu/Canonical have paid programs for extended updates for very old operating systems, too.
