A recent and ongoing outage in Spain, Portugal highlights the need for Amateur radio and backup electricity – as of now, 1pm April 28, the ongoing outage is affecting Spain and Portugal, and several amateur radio groups have been responding to “share situational awareness information”.
Unlike Data/internet, local radio stations are reportedly working, with unconfirmed photos of men gathering to listen to radio, and locals dusting off the old battery powered radio to get official updates.
Some news reports are getting out from reporters in solar-powered setups, and this is a reminder to be ready – if you have critical work equipment or equipment you must use that is electric, it is always good to have an electric power pack or generator handy… and be ready for contingencies.
